Political “success” has contrasting meanings, depending on the evaluative criteria used. These are individual, societal, environmental, political, cultural, cross-national ones, or even, among absolutists, universal or eternal ideals. Of these criteria, it is reasonable to use a combined political systems and cultural model to guide our discussion of the phenomenon.
