У статті розглядаються репрезентації Першої світової війни на сторінках щоденного російськомовного, правого видання «Киевлянин» за матеріалами 1914-1917 років. Проаналізовано ідейні конструкти, що представляють поточний конфлікту на трьох смислових рівнях: війни як події, війни як
історичного шансу та війни як трагедії. Виділено ідейні аспекти, яким видання приділяло найбільше
уваги в ході висвітлення конфлікту.
The article deals with the representation of the First World War on the pages of the daily Russian-language,
right-wing newspaper «Kievlianin» in the materials of 1914-1917. It analyzes the ideological constructs which
represent that conflict on three semantic levels: war as an event, war as historical chance, and war as tragedy.
The ideological aspects, which the publication paid the most attention to during the coverage of the conflict,
were highlighted.
For the readers of «Kievlianin» war is a manifestation of people’s unity and calm acceptance of their mission.
In designing the image of the current war, there are certain allusions with the Patriotic War of 1812. However,
one can not assert that this image was launched «from above». Without contradicting official propaganda,
«Kievlianin» represents current events as an opportunity to unite the Slavs under the Romanovs and to conquer
Constantinople. However, it does not have a single vision of who are included into the future unification under
the general term «Slavs». In addition, the authors of the publication see the restrictions imposed by the conflict,
a viable source of renewal and purification of society. Presenting the tragic image of the war, «Kievlianin» focuses
on the description of the civilian population sufferings from the belligerent front zone. At the same time,
the pages of the publication do not reflect the same suffering and deprivation of civilian population from the
Russian front-line zone. In author’s opinion, this is due to ideological frames of editors, and not censorship.
On the pages of the publication, Russia is represented as a liberator of the Slav brothers, the references to internal
disorders could have censured this vivid image.
