In the left-bank Polesie of the Ukrainian SSR the flight of blood-sucking biting midges begins at the first half of May and completes at the end of September (they attack actively human beings and animals in the 3d ten-day period of May, 3d ten-day period of June and 1st ten-day period of September). Two maxima of the diurnal activity, evening and early-morning, are observed. The following factors are the principal ones determining activity of the biting midges attack: air temperature, illumination and wind velocity; relative air humidity has no essential influence.

The article is devoted to xylophilic larvae of assassin flies larvae developing in passages of various arbovorous insects (barbels, oak-borers and others). For the first time the data are presented on morphology and trophic relations of larvae of four Laphria Mg. species and additional information on 3 species of larvae of the genus under study which were slightly investigated. A determination key is compiled.

Three new for science phytophagous species of chalcids from the genus Bruchophagus Ashm. are described. All three species develop in seeds of Liliaceae of the genus. Eremurus in the mountain regions of the Crimea and Middle Asia. The described species compose a special group in the genus Bruchophagus and are characterized by an extremely peculiar structure of male antennae.
