Orientation was studied of Rana terrestris A n d r z e j e w s k i for a water body in the period of reproduction from a distance of 150 m, olfactory, sight and auditory organs being eliminated. It was established that elimination of sight and auditory organs causes no disturbance in orientation whereas elimination of olfactory organs evokes a complete desorientation.

The article deals with studying optimal conditions of total proteolytic activity of amylase in Tetranychus cinnabarinus as well as specificity of these mites'amylase effect on starches of potato and Nufar luteum (L.) — atypical fodder plant for them. Optimal values for proteases were 4.0, for amylase— 5.5. Optimal temperature for proteases was 30-35° C. For amylases the temperatures up to 50° C were not optimal.
The mites can eat Nufar luteum — an atypical fodder plant for them and normally develop on it. Amylase of the mites attacks the starch of this plant not much less than potato starch. Absence of T. cinnabarinus on Nufar luteum in nature may be explained by conditions of this plant wintering unsuitable for mites.

Шарпило, В.П.; Ваккер, В.Г.
The new species Entomelas kazachstanika is described, parasitizing in lungs of Ophisaurus apodus (P all.) in the Crimea, Transcaucasia and Middle Asia. The new species differs from the closest — one E. dujardini (M a u p a s in S e u r a t, 1916) in considerably less quantity of eggs without larvae, in much less body width, strongly developed glands concentrated in the oesophagus zone and anterior part of the intestine, non-pigmented content of the intestine and other characters. A host of the new species differs in its ecology from that of E. dujardini.

Estramomys cf. simplex J a n. is described, the remains of which are found in the Upper Pliocene (Lower Taman) deposits of the Tiligulian section (coastal bench of the Black Sea eastwards the Tiligulian liman) and the Upper Kujalnik layers of the vil. Kryzhanovka (the Odessa outskirts). Finding of eomyides in Eastern Europe is mentioned for the first time.
The finding of Eomyidae remains together with Lagurodon and Allophaiomys in the deposits of the Early Taman time deposits is one specific features in eomyide time distribution in Eastern Europe. It is established that within the boundaries of the South of the European part of the USSR Eomyidae were preserved for almost the whole Late Neogene period (from Meotis to the beginning of the second half of Late Pliocene included).
