Бровдий, В.М.
Lochmaea crataegi F о г s t. is distributed all over the right-bank Ukraine. It propagates in quantity on Prunus spinosa L. bushes, more rarely — on Crataegus L. The life
cycle of the pest is univoltine and lasts for 53—57 days. The beetles affect buds, pedicels,
flower ovaries and leaves, the larvae — fruit of these plants. The female lays 80—130
eggs. In places of mass propagation L. crataegi Forst . can also inhabit Malus M i l l
and affect its flowers, leaves and fruit. The characteristic of an egg, larva and pupa is given. The peculiarities of L. crataegi Forst. ecology under conditions of the Ukraine are presented.

Investigations were carried out with M. arvalis Pallas , M. socialis Palla s and
rabbits. The effect of DDT, hexachlorane and chlorophos in doses applied in practice was
studied. It was established that these insecticides evoke pathological and anatomical changes in viscera of the animals under study, disturbs the blood and respiration pictures, cardiac rhythm, cause displacements in the blood protein picture.
Morpho-physiological and biochemical changes can be very exast indices of organism
intoxication. Chlorophos affects the organism to a lesser extent than chlororganic pesticides. Different species of animals response to the same preparation differently and different pesticides, in their turn, can affect differently one and the same mammal species.

In the Upper Dniester basin when dissecting 249 individuals of Larus birds of the
following four species: Larus ridibundus, Chlidonias nigra, Ch. leucoptera and Sterna
hirundo 20 species of parasitic worms were found. High extensity and intensity of birds'
invasion with such species as Prosthogonimus ovatus, Diplostomum spathaceum, Cotylurus pileatus, Renicola lari, Paricterotaenia porosa, Aploparaksis larina, Tetrameres fissispina were observed. Invasion of birds with Echinostoma revolutum, Tanaisia fedtschenkoi,
Diplostomum flexicaudum, Ligula intestinalis is less frequent. In spring and autumn the
degree of gulls' invasion with helminths is lower than in summer. Eight species out of the
found parasites evoke in poultry and food-fish outbreaks of epizootics which in mass infestation have lethal result.

Мулярская, Л.В.; Гулиев, М.В.; Щирова, Л.Ф.; Талыбов, А.Н.
During 1963—1965 small mammals of 22 species were investigated: rodents, insectivorous and small carnivores. 31217 trombiculids of 22 species belonging to 11 genera
were gathered from them. The highest indices of trombiculid quantity on the hosts are
observed in the mountain zone, the least — in the alpine one. Out of the investigated
animals the following ones are the main hosts (in a succession of their significance):
Meriones tristrami, M. persicus, M. vinogradovi, Microlus socialis, M. arvalis, M. nivalis,
and Mus musculus, Apodemus sylvaticus. Microtrombicula azerbaidjanica and Elxonellu
crinita arc dominating species of trombiculids in the foothill and mountain zones, Neotrombicula sevaniensis — in the alpine one.
