The article is devoted to Stanislav Ludkevich and Oleksandr Oles’ works. These are six romances, three choruses and a symfonic poem. The composer, who was philologically educated and wrote verses himself, highly appreciated poetry of one of the representatives of Ukrainian modern literature. The athor observes life cohtacts of artists, their stylistic inclinations and esthetical orientations. It is necessary to point out their common liking for innovations, what appeared in romances of symbolistic direction, while in choruses social and political circumstances of the soviet period were reflected. The symphonic poem “Our Sea” is an example of programme music of picturesque type.
