У статті висвітлюється діяльність української інтелігенції в різних структурах доброчинних
організацій у часи Першої світової війни.
During the First World War, a wide range of charitable organizations were established in tzar Russia. They
provided assistance to the army and the inhabitants who suffered from the War, took care of the wounded and
ill soldiers. These were the All-Russian Zemskyi Union (Zemskyi Union), the All-Russian Union of the City
(City Union), the Committee of the All-Russian Union of the towns of South-Western Front, which was operating
in Ukraine, and partly the Committee of Grand Duchess Tetiana Mykolaivna to help the population suffered
from the War (Tetiania Committee).
National organizations, including the Ukrainian Society, known as the Northern Life Society, which was
established in Kyiv in early May 1915, provided all possible assistance to the suffered. The Ukrainian intelligentsia
worked in various charitable organizations and played an important role in educating children.Thus,
representatives from various public groups and population layers took an active part in the activity of public
organizations of Ukraine.
In order to treat ill and injured soldiers, a wide network of hospitals and infirmaries was established.
Refugees and exiles were provided with food products,they received medical help, clothes and foot dressing.
Schools and shelters were opened for their children. The notable role in these activities belonged to Ukrainian
intelligentsia.
